Harmel's Taylor River Fishing Report 4/2/24

Current river flow: 138 CFS

Fishing on the Taylor is off to a great start! We’re still at winter flows ranging between 135 and 150 CFS, and we should be in that range for the rest of the month. Look for fish in the deeper, slower pockets and soft riffles. If you’re not getting any strikes down deep, lighten up your setup, and look for fish taking emergers higher up in the water column. The fish have been hungry but are still on their winter diets of small midges, baetis nymphs and emergers, as well as the occasional stonefly nymph. You might also see some small midge and baetis hatches during the late morning and afternoon, and we have found some fish willing to take our small dry flies if carefully presented.

Top Flies:

Barr’s Emerger, RS2, Juju Baetis, Manhattan Midge, Zebra Midge, BWO, Parachute Adams (Sizes #18-#22)

CDC Dark Stone, 20 incher  (Sizes #12-#14)

We will keep you updated as the river changes, but check back during the season for weekly reports.

Meet John Evon

John is starting his third season as a fly fishing guide at Harmels on the Taylor. He has been an avid fly fisherman for nearly 10 years and loves being able to share his experience and take people out on the river. There is nothing more exciting for him than getting people hooked on fly fishing.

Living on the property, John spends a lot of his free time learning the intricacies of the river and exploring other nearby rivers and lakes. He is looking forward to another great season of fishing and getting his dog, Hank, out on the river.
