Whitewater Rafting Adventures

Unsurpassed for its natural beauty, the glacier carved Taylor Canyon widens at Harmel’s and then proceeds, at slower speed, for seven more miles before meeting the East River forming the headwaters of the mighty Gunnison River.

The Taylor River trips offer something for every member of your group or family, from mild to wild. This is a scenic narrow river that meanders through the Taylor Canyon. You travel through areas where the canyon walls rise straight up from the river banks and often there are bighorn sheep sightings along the river. If you are lucky, you may even see elk, deer or an occasional black bear.

Upper Taylor: Deluxe Class III+

This is our most popular trip. With plenty of whitewater, this trip will get you wet! Everyone in the boat paddles while our guides give the commands. It is great fun and no experience is necessary. Minimum age is usually 12 years old. There may be exceptions depending on the time of year and water levels.

The rafting van picks you up at Harmel’s at the office/rec lounge to take you to the put-in a few miles upstream. The Upper Taylor trip is a deluxe class III+ adventure.  It is an exhilarating whitewater experience right here in the canyon. Characterized by great riffles and whitewater chutes; both safe and exciting.

Upper Taylor: Extended

Make the Upper Taylor fun last longer with our premier whitewater trip. It begins in the same place as the Upper Taylor trip, at Initiation rapids, but you will have 3 more miles of whitewater fun and the opportunity to float through the entire Middle Taylor with more whitewater and scenic beauty. A longer trip means more rapids and more fun on the river. Minimum age is 12 years old. There may be exceptions depending on the time of year and water levels. This trip is not available on Sundays.

Lower Taylor: Deluxe Class I-II (scenic float)

This scenic float trip is a mild ride with just a few ripples along the way. It is a great option for families with young children or for anyone who would rather float than paddle. Our guides do all the work using an oar frame so you just sit back and enjoy the ride, however, paddle trips may be requested for this part of the river. No experience is necessary. Ideally, all children should be of walking age. Slower in river speed, the Lower Taylor trip still boasts exciting whitewater rapids with nice rolling chutes.

There will be professional photographers taking action shots of your raft going through some of the rapids for both the Upper Taylor and the Lower Taylor trips. You can view the photos online a bit later on in the day. You are by no means obligated to purchase these photos. But, we bet you’ll want to simply for the bragging rights!

Harmel’s rafts two times per day, seven days per week: 9:00am and 1:00pm. Rain or Shine.
