The Gunnison and Taylor Rivers were recently selected by Colorado Parks and Wildlife Commission at their January 18, 2023 meeting to join the Gold Medal Program as two of the newest Gold Medal trout fisheries in the state. Harmels on the Taylor is located on a private one-mile stretch of the approved 20 miles of the Taylor River below Taylor Park Reservoir. What this means for the property is that we are committed to maintaining and sustaining this special part of Colorado.
Fly Fishing at Harmels
Thanks to the conservation efforts of many throughout Taylor Canyon, the fly fishing at Harmels is spectacular. Catch rainbows, browns, cutthroat, and brookies right out your cabin door while surrounded by towering pines.
Our private one-mile stretch of the Taylor River is free to fish for guests staying on the property. For those not staying at the cabins, a daily fly fishing pass is required to buy in our general store located right off the highway. A Colorado fishing license is also required to fish the river, and guests are able to purchase a license online through Colorado Parks and Wildlife or in person at one of these locations.
Flies are only allowed in the river, and guests who want to use lures are able to go out to the stocked pond behind the stables. Harmels has an on-site fly shop where you can purchase the best flies or rent any gear you might need for a day of fishing. Our fly guides are well equipped to help you catch the best fish on the river. You can book a private trip with them by calling John at (708) 710-4427 or sending an email to johnevon@harmels.com.
Book your cabin today and get ready for a fishing trip of a lifetime on our newly appointed Gold Medal waters!
